Dean is a Senior Data Scientist at Geografia. He advises government organisations on the use of data and implements data science techniques to improve government policy. By combining traditional planning ideas, data and technology he changes the way governments operate. Over the last 12 months Dean has been working closely with the City of Melbourne in the implementation of its City Analytics platform.
Previously, he was an Eric and Wendy Schmidt Data Science Fellow at the University of Chicago. Here, he worked with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to develop predictive models. These models allowed the NYSDEC to target their inspections of industrial sites and catch the worst offenders before they did serious damage to the environment and human health. Dean holds a Master of Economics from the University of Melbourne and his past work has been featured on CNN and IBTimes.com.
